The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Jerk Chicken, praised by many for its perfectly spiced, smoky BBQ jerk sauce that packs just the right amount of heat. Whether you’re indulging in a whole chicken paired with freshly made festival and piping hot rice and peas, or choosing a leg quarter with seasoned fries, each serving bursts with bold Caribbean spices and comforting, home-style preparation. Another standout is the Curry Shrimp with Roti, a dish so unique and memorable that patrons say there’s nothing quite like it elsewhere—its aromatic curry and soft, flaky roti create a luscious harmony of flavors.
Seafood lovers will find the Escovitch Fish a delightful surprise: perfectly fried and topped with tangy pickled vegetables, it’s a great snack or meal that complements classic sides like Festival, a sweet, fried dough that offers a delightful contrast in texture. The menu also boasts hearty dishes such as Goat Curry and Short Ribs, slow-cooked to tender perfection and seasoned with well-balanced spices, drawing customers back time and again for their rich, satisfying depth. For those craving something a bit lighter or different, the Mixed Vegetables and Seasoned Fries add a pleasant variety to each meal.
Guests have noted the exceptionally clean and well-maintained kitchen, reflecting the care and professionalism behind each dish. The food is often packed in sturdy containers, perfect for takeout or catering—ideal for Brooklyn locals or visitors enjoying a casual night in or a festive gathering. Pair your meal with refreshing island-inspired beverages like Sorrel, Coconut Water, or a crisp Ting soda to complete the experience.
While some have wished for traditional Caribbean desserts like rum cake, the focus here remains on delivering authentic savory sensations that satisfy the soul. Whether you're stopping by to grab a quick, spicy jerk chicken plate or ordering a feast to share, de Islands offers a genuine taste of the Caribbean infused with warmth and hospitality.
If your taste buds crave bold spices, unique flavor combinations, and the comfort of island home cooking, de Islands in Brooklyn is a must-visit destination that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
Yes! I was driving around looking for a jerk chicken truck. I couldn't find one. This place looked nice and bright. I figured they must haves some jerk chicken so I went in. I ordered the number three which is a whole chicken, four festivals and two 16 oz rice and peas. I also ordered some fried plantains. Before I even ate I noticed how the kitchen was spotless. All the equipment looks brand new. I know this place has been around for years. The seating area looks inviting, warm and comfortable. I got my food super fast and everything was fresh and tasty. It cost me $37 total without drinks. I was hoping it would be enough food for three people. All three of us ate a substantial meal and almost half of the food is still left. Great food, fast service, excellent value. Coming back soon.
A great variety of Caribbean dishes and drinks, although I was a bit disappointed that there were no desserts (I was hoping for rum cake). I was not expecting for the food to be separated into Tupperware-style bowls, fortunately the AirBnB provided the kitchenware we needed. The food was exceptionally good, and the cassava fries were a delicious treat. The food was a bit pricey, but I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
The jerk chicken here is amazing with the spicy BBQ jerk sauce. The sauce is nice all in one combo. They have unique flavor rice like pumpkin rice. Definitely worth take out and catering orders from de Island
De Island’s is a nice lil spot only available in BK & Queens. The Queens location is my favorite but I was in the area and caught them right before closing time. My favorite dish from here will always be the curry shrimp with roti …. I love its uniqueness, I’ve had nothing like it else where so they got me for life. The escovitch fish with festival is always a great snack ( yes I said snack ) … and the jerk chicken is amazing. I love the texture, the flavors with a small kick of heat( make sure to ask for sauce but I like mine plain)
